Blue Topaz is extremely rare in its natural form. It is usually colour enhanced somehow to bring it to its beautiful sky-blue clear lustre. The use of topaz goes back to Egyptian times when the ancient Egyptians believed that topaz received its sparkle and hue from the Sun God, Ra. Blue topaz is the state stone of Texas.
Tibetan Turquoise varies from deep blue to green. Turquoise has been mined in Tibet and much prized by the peoples of the Himalayas for millennia. It was used as a family’s store of wealth in the form of a woman’s jewellery and was also used as a talisman, worn next to the skin, for protection against illness and evil spirits. Turquoise was given to a baby at birth to keep with them through their life and was considered the ‘sky stone’ fallen to earth, a gift from the gods. Turquoise is the traditional birthstone of December.
